Just eight months after Spirit launched flights from Norfolk to Boston, Spirit has decided to suspend operations of the route, with the route slated to end November 4th, 2024, according to their flight schedule. Spirit had only just started routes to Boston-Logan International Airport (BOS) in February of 2024, marking one of the many cuts Spirit has recently made in its route network due to financial struggles after the attempted jetBlue-Spirit merger.
Spirit still retains operations at Norfolk, operating routes to Orlando International Airport (MCO) and nearby Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), which they have operated since March of 2023 when the airport was able to get Spirit to start operations out of Norfolk.
Thankfully, Norfolk is not without nonstop flights to Boston, though. Delta offers daily round-trip flights to Boston-Logan International Airport (BOS) although at a higher price tag than Spirit had provided on the route. A quick look at their booking sites shows that for the departure date of November 3rd, Delta costs $337 for a base fare, while Spirit charges $71 for their base fare.
Hope isn't lost for this route, however, as right now Spirit has only announced a suspension of the route and not a full route cut. Spirit's extended schedule will be the tell-tale if they actually keep the route or not... but for now, bye-bye to Boston with Spirit from Norfolk.
