A new ultra-low-cost-carrier is stepping foot into the Richmond Airport starting October 17, 2025! Frontier Airlines is beginning non-stop flights to Atlanta and Denver beginning in late October, according to their schedule (and Ishrion on Twitter, thanks!)
Their new route to Atlanta will operate 2x weekly (Mon & Fri). This comes as Southwest recently exited the Atlanta market from Richmond over the springtime, leaving Delta with a huge monopoly over the route (operating as many as 9x daily flights). Having Frontier hop in on Atlanta will certainly lower fares on this route, hopefully leading to more competition on this route.
Frontier Airlines is also operating a flight to another one of its hub cities, Denver. Flights to Denver will operate 2x weekly (Sun & Thurs). Frontier will be competing with Southwest and United on this route. Southwest operates flights to Denver 1x daily, and United operates this route 2x daily. Frontier marks the 11th airline to operate at the Richmond airport, and the 4th new airline at Richmond in the past 5 years! Time will tell whether Frontier would operate flights to other of its focus cities, such as Orlando or Philadelphia.
