The Richmond International Airport carried 301,029 passengers in February, a decrease of over 8% from the 327,906 passengers it carried in February 2024. A partial contributor to this lower number could be the winter storm the airport faced during the middle of the month, forcing flight cancellations by some airlines. According to statistics provided by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, February 2025 had a cancellation rate of 2.86%, compared to 0.73% in 2024.

For February 2025, Fort Myers (RSW) saw the highest load factor of 92.34%, although this is only based on 8 departures for that route for the month, but still a healthy number nonetheless. 4 other Florida vacation spots are also in the top 10, including St. Petersburg (PIE), Miami (MIA), Orlando (MCO), and Tampa (TPA).
Four of the routes on this list - RSW, PHX, LAS, TPA - are operated exclusively by Breeze Airways. Do keep in note though, only the Tampa route is operated daily, while the other routes range from 2x-4x weekly.

The top 10 lowest load factor routes aren't terrible for the slow month of February, with most routes at RIC staying above or just near 70% load. The lowest route load factor for February was New Haven (HVN), with only a 33% load factor. This route only operated 2x weekly, and began the second week of February, so there were only six departures of this route.
Another Breeze route sitting below 50% is Providence, Rhode Island (PVD). This is typically a nighttime route, and is the terminating airport for west coast flights connecting through Richmond, so it's low load factor isn't too surprising, but shows that Breeze would definitely benefit setting up a base in Richmond to allow their west coast flights to terminate in Richmond, eliminating the need for the flight to fly back to Providence with a little amount of passengers.
Lastly, Southwest has struggled these past few months with passengers, and it shows here. Baltimore & Chicago-Midway are both near or below 50% load factor. Which is kind of surprising as BWI & MDW are both huge connecting
hubs for Southwest, so you'd think a lot of people would be connecting through those airports, but it appears not as many as Southwest had thought.

For the top 10 most passengers on routes out of Richmond, it is no surprise to see Atlanta and Charlotte both in the top 2 spots, with ATL being a huge hub for Delta to funnel passengers to, and American with Charlotte, respectively. Otherwise, it is primarily business destinations that contain the rest of the passenger counts, with 2 of the 3 New York area airports in the top 10. Denver continues to slowly climb with passenger numbers, proving a great success since the route was added in 2016 by United, and now is also operated by Southwest.
That's all for this month's statistical summary! All statistics for each month are typically published 3-4 months after the actual month, hence why I'm posting February statistics in early June.
